The sanctuary your heart and attitude create – HOME.

“Home” is not just a physical location, but a state of being cultivated from within.

Meet Panida Johnson, a Rock Springs resident born and raised in Songkhla, Thailand, a vibrant city on the Gulf of Thailand, steeped in the rich cultural tapestry of Thai, Chinese, and Malay influences. While growing up in Songkhla, she never imagined moving to the United States, let alone settling in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Yet, her journey has taught her lessons beyond her imagination and reaffirmed her strong belief that it doesn’t matter where we find ourselves, what matters is how we feel inside and your attitude.

Panida’s journey began with her husband, an engineer who she met working as an accountant for an oil company in Thailand. Their love story unfolded amidst international moves, taking them from Thailand to Indonesia, Oman, and Dubai. These experiences fostered a deep appreciation for diverse cultures, traveling, and a broader worldview.

Her first encounter with Wyoming was on a hunting trip in 2001 with her husband who lives for hunting. What makes that trip particularly memorable is the date of their arrival: September 11th. Their flight to California was the final one allowed to land before the unprecedented airspace shutdown. Despite the backdrop of national tragedy unfolding around them, they made the best out of that trip exploring Wyoming.

“Honestly, I did not envision myself living in a small town especially Wyoming due to my experience living in bigger cities” she expressed. However, in 2004 another planned hunting trip back to Wyoming turned into an unplanned decision to make Wyoming their new home with their newly born son, settling in Rock Springs where her husband’s family resided.

Leaving her friends and family behind was undoubtedly challenging. Yet, Panida discovered an inner strength, realizing that home is not just a physical place, but a feeling within. She reflected. “You can make anywhere your home. No matter where you are, you can create your own happiness. The place does not matter, what matters is how you feel inside. I am a very positive person. You can be happy wherever you are with the right attitude.” The people in Rock Springs also played a major part in why she felt at home. She never felt different or unwelcome anywhere she went. Everyone she encountered was nice and treated her with respect and equality. “Rock Springs is my home away from my birth home. I love the people and lifestyle. The interesting thing is whenever we go back home, after a few weeks, I yearn to be back in Rock Springs, Wyoming. It feels like my safe zone

Panida’s journey stands as a powerful testament to the human spirit’s remarkable ability to adapt, surmount challenges, and discover peace regardless of life’s unpredictable course. It underscores that resilience, a positive mindset, and our innate capacity for connection are the true architects of happiness. While external circumstances undeniably shape our experiences, what profoundly influences how we perceive our reality is how we feel internally.

By diligently cultivating a positive inner feeling about our external world, we unlock our inherent potential and forge a more fulfilling and meaningful existence. As the Buddha eloquently articulated, ‘All experience is preceded by mind, led by mind, made by mind’.
